Case Study: Strasburger & Price, LLP
Strasburger & Price, LLP, a Dallas-based law firm with satellite
offices in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Mexico City, charged
Connolly & Company with identifying an opportunity for targeted
community relations in San Antonio. Chad Muller, the managing
partner of Strasburger & Price's San Antonio office, was looking
for an opportunity to align the firm with a non-profit organization
that appeals to members of San Antonio's business and legal communities.
The overall goal was philanthropic - Strasburger & Price wanted
to provide financial, legal and volunteer resources for an agency
that was making a difference in San Antonio. Secondary goals included
firm imaging, publicity, and good will.
Connolly & Company found what it believed
to be a perfect fit. One of its principals sits on the board of
Family Violence Prevention Services (FVPS), the umbrella organization
for the Battered Women's Shelter of Bexar County. In addition
to counting a number of local attorneys, judges and business leaders
on its board, FVPS already had a fund-raising vehicle in place.
The annual gala, known as Nutcracker Sweets, is a December evening
of champagne and sugary confections from some of the country's
best-known chefs. In addition to negotiating a deal for Strasburger
& Price to be the sole presenting sponsor for three consecutive
years, Connolly & Company developed a way for the law firm
to add its own tradition to the gala. An award for Outstanding
Judge was created to honor someone in the judiciary who works
to eliminate family violence on a daily basis through the court
system.
The partnership between Strasburger &
Price and FVPS kicked off in February 2000 and on December 5,
2000, approximately 900 guests applauded a County Court at Law
judge and a State District Judge as they received their crystal
sculptures emblazoned with the Strasburger & Price and FVPS
logos. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of the partnership
has been its growth behind the scenes. FVPS has asked a Strasburger
attorney to sit on its board and the office's partners have pledged
pro bono legal services, volunteer time and other support to the
agency. Attorneys from the law firm are invited to numerous FVPS
meetings and receptions, and old friendships have been renewed.
